Glow From Within: Where Inner Workings Shine from Beneath the Surface

Maryland Telehealth Therapy

Grief and Loss

I am Christina Thompson, LCPC, and I am here to support you as you navigate the quiet and loud moments of loss. Whether you are noticing a shift in your daily routine or feeling the weight of a life change, I offer a grounded and relational space to talk through your experience. With about 6 years in practice as a counselor licensed in Maryland, I work exclusively through telehealth for adults and couples located in Maryland. My approach is rooted in the belief that your timeline is your own. We will look at how your history interacts with your present, focusing on plain observations of your current needs. I work Monday to Friday to help you explore these difficult transitions at a pace that feels sustainable for you.

Navigating Daily Life After Loss

Loss often shows up in the most ordinary moments. You might be at a grocery store in Maryland and see a specific item that brings up a memory, or you might find that your morning routine feels different than it used to. These experiences are common parts of the human experience. In our sessions, we use mindfulness based practices and CBT to notice these patterns without judgment. We will talk about what it is like to move through your day while carrying these memories. The goal is to observe these moments as they happen and practice staying present in your current environment.

Exploring Shifts In Identity

When a significant relationship or role ends, it is natural to feel a sense of confusion about your place in the world. You might be navigating life after a career change or adjusting to a new family structure. We will use relational tools to explore how these changes impact your sense of self. By using ACT and Gottman principles, we can look at the values that are important to you now. We practice identifying the roles you hold today and how you want to show up in them. This work is about noticing the reality of your current situation with clarity.

Practicing Body Awareness Skills

Grief is often felt physically, perhaps as a tightness in the shoulders or a change in your energy levels. I incorporate somatic and mindfulness based perspectives to help you pay attention to these physical cues. We might notice how your breath changes when you discuss a certain topic or where you feel tension when you think about a recent event. By practicing these awareness skills, you can learn to stay connected to your physical self during difficult conversations. We focus on simple observations of the body to help you stay grounded while we talk through your experiences together.

Building Practical Coping Strategies

In addition to exploring your feelings, we will work on practical skills for managing your week. I utilize DBT and CBT to help you develop a toolkit for moments when you feel overwhelmed. This might involve practicing specific grounding techniques or planning how to approach an upcoming calendar date that feels significant. We work together through telehealth while you practice these new skills. I offer a free consultation through Alma to see if my approach fits your needs as you look at the patterns in your life and practice new ways of being. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.
