Breathing and Yoga Informed Techniques

I am Christina and I value the connection we build in our work together. As a licensed professional counselor with about 6 years in practice, I focus on how your physical presence interacts with your thoughts. I provide telehealth for adults and couples located in Maryland from Monday to Friday. In our sessions, I show up as a grounded person who listens closely to your story. We use talk therapy alongside quiet observation of your physical state. This approach is helpful when words do not quite capture the tension you carry. We look at your daily life through a relational lens and practice ways to stay present when things feel busy or loud. My goal is to offer a space where you can explore your patterns with a sense of support and collaboration.

Bringing The Body Into Our Work

Many people live mostly in their thoughts while they worry about a next task or replay a conversation. When you work with me, I invite you to notice what happens below the neck. I am Christina Thompson, LCPC, licensed in Maryland. I weave somatic and mindfulness based tools into our standard talk therapy sessions. If your shoulders are near your ears while we discuss a project, we might pause. I may suggest a gentle neck stretch or a grounded seated pose to help you stay in the current moment. This process helps you notice your physical self in a way that feels supportive during our time together.

Practical Breathing For Real Life

Breathing is something you do all day yet you might rarely think about it until you feel rushed. In my practice, I share specific breathing skills that you can use while sitting at your desk or waiting in a grocery line. We might explore how a slow exhale helps you notice your surroundings. These are plain language tools designed for your daily routine. By practicing these during our telehealth sessions, you build a habit. When a difficult email arrives or a partner says something frustrating, you have a way to stay focused on the present moment instead of reacting out of physical exhaustion or heat.

Movement That Supports Your Mind

You do not need a special mat or flexible clothes to use yoga informed techniques in therapy. This is different from a fitness class. We focus on gentle movement that addresses physical tension tied to your daily experiences. For example, if you feel sluggish, we might try a simple chest opening stretch to help you feel more open to the conversation. I use a blend of CBT, DBT, and ACT to help you understand your patterns while adding somatic tools. It is about finding a balance. We move just enough to help you process things clearly without losing focus on our core goal of personal understanding.

Building Your Internal Tool Kit

I want you to feel capable long after our video call ends. I use Gottman methods for couples and individual tools like mindfulness to help you handle the ups and downs of being an adult. I might suggest a grounding technique where you feel your feet firm against the floor while we talk. This helps you stay rooted in the room instead of feeling lost in a memory. We take things at your pace to make sure every technique feels relevant to your life in Maryland. It is about giving you a variety of ways to notice your habits and practice new skills every day.
