Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
I am Christina Thompson, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland. My goal is to work with you as you navigate the world with more awareness. You might feel as though you are on a treadmill that never stops, attempting to keep others satisfied while you fade into the background. I have spent about 6 years in practice helping people recognize the internal dialogue that often keeps them in these cycles. Through our telehealth sessions, we identify the specific mental habits that make you feel like your own needs are a luxury. We look at how these patterns show up for you so you can be more present in your own life instead of just checking items off a list for others.
Recognizing The Internal Critic
We often carry a quiet voice inside that suggests we are only valuable when we are producing something for someone else. You might notice this when you sit down to rest and feel a sudden sense of obligation. Perhaps you think you should be folding laundry or answering one more email instead of just being still. In our work, we look at these automatic thoughts without judgment. I use my background to help you see these patterns clearly. We name these thoughts as they happen so they lose their influence over your daily perspective and your sense of self. We focus on neutral observation of these internal habits.
Observing The Habit Of Pleasing
It is common to find yourself saying yes to a favor before you even check your own calendar. This habit usually comes from a belief that saying no will lead to conflict or rejection. During our Monday to Friday sessions, we explore how these beliefs drive your actions. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to look at these assumptions in a practical way. You might practice a small boundary, like not answering a non urgent text immediately, to see what happens next. This process helps you notice that your time is just as valid as the time you give to others in Maryland. We stay focused on these daily interactions.
Grounded Skills For Daily Life
I believe therapy should involve skills you can use after we end our call. Along with traditional talk therapy, I bring in somatic and mindfulness based perspectives to help you connect your thoughts to your physical sensations. When you notice a thought that puts you last, you might feel a tightness in your chest or a clenched jaw. By combining these observations with CBT, we give you a toolkit for self awareness. You will practice noticing these physical cues and using logic to look at the thought before it becomes an overwhelming weight. We focus on these tangible moments of connection between mind and body.
Building Relational Balance
Focusing on others can impact how you show up in your closest relationships. You might feel quiet frustration toward a partner because you feel they do not see how hard you are working. Using Gottman methods and DBT skills, we look at how to communicate your needs clearly. It is about moving away from the idea that being a good partner requires you to ignore your own limits. We work on shifting how you talk to yourself so that you can show up with others. This creates a space where you can practice being yourself rather than just being a helper who is tired.
