Focusing On The Now

Mindfulness Based Therapy

I am Christina Thompson, and I work as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland. For about 6 years, I have supported adults and couples through telehealth as they explore their internal experiences. My practice focuses on noticing what is happening in the present moment without the need to rush toward a specific outcome. I offer sessions Monday to Friday for those located in Maryland. We look at how daily habits and thoughts interact. By using a relational and grounded perspective, I help you observe your current environment and your responses to it. Our work involves paying attention to the here and now during our time together.

Presence In Ordinary Moments

In our sessions, we explore how to notice the present during your regular routine. We look at the way your attention might move between different tasks or thoughts throughout the day. I use a grounded approach to help you practice staying with one experience at a time, such as the feeling of water while washing your hands or the sound of the wind. We observe the patterns of your mind as it shifts focus. This work is about practicing a steady awareness during everyday activities. We look at how these small moments of attention fit into your life in Maryland.

Observing Physical Sensations

I incorporate somatic and mindfulness based perspectives to help you notice physical sensations in your body. We pay attention to things like the position of your posture or the rhythm of your breath as you speak. I use my background to help you describe where you feel tension or ease without labeling those feelings as good or bad. By practicing this type of awareness, you can begin to identify physical cues as they arise. This process is about observation and curiosity rather than trying to force a specific physical state. We simply notice the connection between your thoughts and your physical presence.

Practicing Skills And Patterns

My approach includes elements of CBT, DBT, and ACT to help you look at your habits. We examine the space between a situation and your response to it. By using these tools, we practice pausing to look at your options in a neutral way. We work on identifying certain thought patterns that occur when you feel pressured or busy. The goal is to build a set of skills that you can use to stay focused on your values. I provide a space where you can experiment with these techniques. We focus on how these practical skills apply to your interactions with others.

Support For Relational Awareness

For couples and individuals in Maryland, I use Gottman Method concepts to explore how you interact with people in your life. We look at how being present affects the way you listen and respond to others. Mindfulness can be a tool for noticing your own reactions during a conversation before you speak. We practice staying engaged with the person in front of you rather than focusing only on your internal dialogue. This work involves looking at communication styles and practicing new ways of being together. We focus on the facts of your interactions and how to remain attentive to your partner or peers.
